Environmental

A Clean City is committed to and operates in a manner that integrates environmental management with reduction of our operational impact on the environment.

Our environmental policy and strategies include:

  • Ensuring our activities comply, at a minimum, with relevant laws, regulations and standards.
  • Fostering and establishing a dialogue with business partners, communities, and peak industry bodies to ensure current and future impacts of our operations on the environment are managed and further reduced.
  • Ensuring that employees are informed and equipped to conduct their work in line with the overall organisational policy and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Prevention of pollution and adverse environmental impacts by promoting and improving operations and technologies. This takes into consideration the efficient use of energy and material, as well as the use of environmentally friendly products wherever possible.
  • Improving recycling and disposal of waste safely and responsibly.
  • Striving to continually improve on all facets of environmental management, and ensure measurable targets and performance indicators are reported upon to senior management.

By choosing A Clean City, you are taking steps to reduce your corporate carbon footprint and emissions and to creating a sustainable work environment.

Beliefs

A Clean City is a firm believer in environmentally sustainable practices and develops methods to deliver our services in an environmentally friendly manner.

Environmental sustainability is not just a policy for A Clean City but the core of our operations.

From cleaning phones to cleaning a warehouse floor, we are constantly researching new ways and technology, both from Australia and overseas, to improve our processes to better serve your needs, in the most environmentally friendly manner.

We believe we have a responsibility towards the environment, as do all members of the community, regardless of size of business.

Sustainability

Sustainability is the other part of the environmental commitment. So what do we do to ensure that we deliver a sustainable service?

  • We place cleaners at job sites which are located close to their homes to avoid lengthy car trips.
  • If this is not practical, we place cleaners at job sites with easy links to public transport to service these sites.
  • We feature use of microfibre technology extensively in our services, which require less or no chemicals at all.
  • Our vacuum cleaners, where possible, have a HEPA filter to avoid dust circulation and have a lower noise level than usual vacuum cleaners.
  • Our vehicles all use diesel fuel for lower environmental impacts.
  • All of our chemicals are biodegradable.

We are always looking at ways to decrease our environmental footprint and provide a service that is not only high quality but fits within our environmental and sustainable philosophy.

Products

A Clean City uses environmentally friendly products in its service delivery as much as possible, and is always actively looking at new and innovative chemicals which are both effective and environmentally friendly.

  • Our cleaning chemical range is largely Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) approved, and depending on the site, we are able to utilise very little chemical with use of latest microfibre technology.
  • Micofibre is an innovative technology which has revolutionised the cleaning industry – read more below.
  • Our floor sealing range is sourced from a number of suppliers, to ensure we use the most appropriate and successful chemical mix to clean your floor.
  • For mattress cleaning, we use an innovative machine produced by Kirby Machinery. It uses wet extraction and vacuuming to achieve a high quality result. We also utilise the Health Guard range of chemicals for mattress cleaning which offer the latest and most effective mix of sanitising.

Our main chemical suppliers are:

We source a varying range of chemicals from the above suppliers ranging from day to day cleaning chemicals through to chemicals which form part of our specialised services.

The latest innovative cleaning product that A Clean City is using is the ionator EXP, which kills 99.9% of germs and eliminates dirt without chemicals. It uses ionised water which breaks apart and lifts dirt from a surface like a magnet, allowing it to be wiped away. Read more about this revolutionary product.

Recently, we introduced a walk behind scrubbing machine that uses microfibre technology. The machine is built to utilise a microfibre cleaning pad, opposed to a usual scrubbing pad, which means substantially less chemical is used, and the microfibre not only cleans the floor but also provides a burnishing action that will enhance the shine of the surface. A Clean City is one of the few cleaning companies in Australia using this advanced technology.

Microfibre technology
Microfibre is a synthetic fibre that is blended from polyester and nylon which have been chemically split into even thinner fibres. Split fibres are better for cleaning because their increased surface area enables them to capture and retain more dirt particles.

Ordinary cleaning towels move or push dirt and dust from one place to another – microfibre actually lifts or scoops the dirt and stores the dirt particles in the cloth until it is washed.

The structural make up of the cloth reduces the need to apply chemical in a number of uses as generally water is sufficient. In heavily soiled areas or where desired, only small amounts of chemical with neutral characteristics are required.

Microfibre can absorb up to seven times its weight in fluids and can be washed up to 1000 times and still maintain their effectiveness. Machine wash or hand-wash with mild soapy water is sufficient.

New production technology has enabled microfibre cloths to be developed which contain solid silver embedded into the fibre which gives it some self sanitising and antibacterial properties. This results in the cloth not only cleaning the surface by removing the germs on it, the silver agent inhibits the growth of germs which eventually causes them to suffocate and die.
